Big changes are coming to how homes are built in New York.
Starting December 31, 2025, new residential construction across the state must meet stricter energy code requirements—including transitioning to all-electric systems for heating, cooling, water heating, and appliances.
This shift is part of New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), which aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions statewide.
At Beaver Mountain, we’re already working with clients to plan ahead—designing custom homes that meet (or exceed) energy code requirements while still prioritizing comfort, design flexibility, and long-term performance.
What this means for you:
- New builds will no longer include fossil fuel systems (propane, natural gas, oil) after the deadline.
- All-electric HVAC, water heaters, stoves, and dryers will become standard.
- Homes must be designed for greater energy efficiency, air sealing, and insulation performance.
- Planning early is key.
Need to meet the current code before the 2025 deadline? We can help.
If you’re hoping to build with gas or propane, we’ll work with you to get your construction drawings completed and submitted for a building permit this fall before the December 31st cutoff. Our team will guide you through design, documentation, and code compliance to help ensure your project can proceed under the existing regulations.
This is a major shift, but with the right team, it doesn’t have to be complicated. We’re here to help you design a home that’s future-ready, code-compliant, and still beautifully yours.
