Beaver Mountain’s History

We understand the importance of a solid foundation from which to build your dream home. We have built our success on the foundation of the Clark family building tradition.

You could say we have building in our blood. Carl Clark began the building tradition in the early 1900s and built many homes on Silver Lake near Hancock, NY, where his family grew. Carl’s son Donald began building homes in 1951 and eventually, Don’s son Ken joined him, creating Don Clark & Sons Builders. Ken loved building homes for others and in the late 1970s he and his Dad started building log homes.

At the time, log home building was arduous with few options to choose from and they were less than builder-friendly. The Clark family researched the process and applied his expertise and knowledge of homebuilding to create pre-cut packages that were builder-friendly – log homes built by builders for builders. From there, they started Beaver Mountain Log Homes in November 1982.

For over 40 years, the popularity of Beaver Mountain Log & Cedar Homes has grown, and we have continued to evolve & grow with it. We are built on strong family values and a passion for custom-built homes. Our focus on creating custom-crafted homes coupled with our desire to be the best, not the biggest, along with decades of expertise in home building has been a large part of our success. We are determined to give you the home of your dreams and continue to offer some of the most custom options available – from log styles to designs to railings – every detail of your home is created just for you.

Four decades later, Beaver Mountain Log & Cedar Homes is a family business at its core. Ken & Karen’s daughters have all been part of the business over the years and Kim and Kourtnie currently still work alongside him, as does their son-in-law, Drew. Ken’s wife Karen has been instrumental in the business in all facets over the years, including writing marketing materials, accounting, and HR. The Clark girls were the voices of Beaver Mountain Log & Cedar Homes’ radio ads and loved helping at Open Houses, Home Shows, and local fairs.

Our employees are also considered family and many have been with us for decades.  We’re proud of the fact that our team is dedicated to their work and truly enjoys helping homeowners create the log and timber homes of their dreams. Our homeowners also join the Beaver Mountain family and we love hearing about their homes many years later. Many of them remember working with some of our beloved team who have long since retired and will share their stories of building with us so we can reminisce together.

Forty years is a long time in business and as the world has changed, we have adapted too. Just as the Clark girls would help their father in the office, now Ken and Karen’s grandchildren can be seen assisting in the office and at events. In the mid-90s, our manufacturing facility moved from the original Silver Lake location to Deposit to allow room for the manufacturing expansion that we needed. Moving the Sales & Design Center followed and in 2020, we combined our Home Office, Sales & Design Center, Engineering & Production and created a new Showroom. And as home trends change, we are in lockstep with our clients and have designers that are up with the latest in home design.

It has been a passion for our family to help you build your dream home. We appreciate all of our clients from the very first Beaver Mountain Log Home and look forward to building many more custom homes for years to come.
