The Kuyahoora Lodge: A Collaboration in Craftsmanship

Total Square Footage 5,963 Sq. Ft. – Main Level 2,935 Sq. Ft. – Upper Level 3,028 Sq. Ft. – Optional Lower Level 2,935 Sq. Ft.

Once a dream on paper, the Kuyahoora Lodge is now an extraordinary example of luxury timber frame living, spanning 8,898 square feet and set on the serene shores of Hinckley Lake. This one-of-a-kind home embodies the timeless beauty of hybrid log construction, brought to life through the vision of the homeowner, the artistry of Rich Home Building, and the craftsmanship of the Beaver Mountain team.

After completion, we had the opportunity to speak with John Rich, founder of Rich Home Building, about his experience with the project and his impressions of working with Beaver Mountain.

“We started in business in 1984 as Rich Home Building, so it’s been 36 years now. Most of our projects happen within a 50-mile radius, although we spent several years working in the central Adirondacks. We tackle numerous types of architecture, but have an affinity for log and timber hybrid construction, as it helps us achieve our goals more efficiently and cost-effectively.”

John’s deep experience and eye for detail were evident throughout the Kuyahoora project. His approach aligned seamlessly with the homeowner’s goal: to create a ‘Great Camp’-inspired lodge rooted in Adirondack tradition. The name “Kuyahoora” itself is drawn from the Native American word for the West Canada Creek—“slanting or leaping waters”—a nod to the home’s lakeside setting.

As with any legacy home, quality materials and trusted partnerships are paramount. John described his decision-making process when searching for the right supplier: “I visited and researched several log home suppliers, but none offered the level of quality we were looking for, until we discovered Beaver Mountain. After touring their model homes, showroom, and production facility, it was clear they had the team, process, and craftsmanship we needed. One visit with my clients and they were sold.”

From design collaboration to delivery of materials, Beaver Mountain played a key role in bringing the Lodge to life. Engineered components helped push the boundaries of traditional log and timber home design, resulting in an estate rich in detail and architectural innovation.

Throughout the process, the collaboration between Rich Home Building and Beaver Mountain was seamless—a shared commitment to craftsmanship, family values, and exceeding client expectations.

As the project evolved, we were all especially proud of the home’s level of sophistication, architectural flourishes, and luxury finishes. It’s quality-built through and through…as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.

At Beaver Mountain, we understand that no two families—or homes—are alike. That’s why we partner with exceptional builders like John Rich to tailor every project to the site, the lifestyle, and the dreams of those who will one day call it home.

“With the value we place on quality, it was a pleasure to experience those same standards from Beaver Mountain,” said John. “As fellow family-owned companies, working together just made sense.”
