Planting the Future: New York’s 25 Million Tree Initiative

New York State has been working toward a goal to plant 25 million trees by 2033, and it’s starting right here in our backyard! Led by the DEC, this statewide initiative is designed to strengthen local ecosystems, improve air and water quBut oursality, and help communities adapt to a changing climate.

Why it matters

Each tree planted plays a small but powerful role. Trees help clean the air, stabilize soil, cool neighborhoods, and provide shelter for wildlife. Over time, those small actions add up to something much bigger – a healthier, more resilient landscape that supports everyone who calls New York home.

Here in the southern part of NYS, where Beaver Mountain calls home, more than 100,000 trees have already been planted as part of this statewide effort (WBNG News). It’s inspiring to see such progress taking root right in our own backyard.

To make it easy for everyone to participate, the DEC has launched a new Tree Tracker tool that lets residents, communities, and organizations log their plantings and watch the collective impact grow across the state.

A shared mission

At Beaver Mountain, this kind of work hits close to home. For several years now, we’ve partnered with One Tree Planted to give back to the forests that inspire everything we do. With every home we create, we also help plant trees across New York and beyond, supporting reforestation projects that restore habitats, improve soil health, and ensure future generations can enjoy the same natural beauty that makes our region so special.

So, when we see initiatives like this taking root statewide, we’re encouraged. It’s another reminder that when individuals, communities, and businesses all work together toward a common goal, real change is possible.

Looking ahead

Whether you’re building your dream home surrounded by towering pines or simply planting a single sapling in your backyard, every effort counts. Together, we can help New York reach this incredible milestone and keep our landscapes thriving for generations to come.
