The kitchen in this custom home in the middle of the Catskill Mountains features many design details that our customers love. It has modern elements with mahogany stained wood cabinets, stainless steel appliances, beautiful granite countertops and unconventional lighting fixtures, which all mix together with the more rustic elements of log home design.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for the men and women who have died during military service. Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on May 5, 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his general Order No. 11 and was first observed on May 30, 1868 when flowers were placed on graves of the Union & Confederate soldiers’ at Arlington National Cemetery.

New York was the 1^st state to officially recognize the holiday in 1873. By 1890 it was recognized by all the northern states. Today Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday in May and is a national holiday. Many towns hold parades and have special ceremonies at the cemetery to honor our men and woman who died during service.

As a reminder Beaver Mountain Log & Cedar Homes will be closed on Monday, May 28th, in observance of this holiday.
